I've never understood the obsession over the ten commandments on the part of many Christians. After all, in the gospel of Matthew, Jesus summed everything up in just two commandments - love God and love your neighbor.

At least EZ got the one correct, as "Thou shalt not murder", which is the original Hebrew version, which is far more specific & correct than the revised Christian one of "Thou shalt not kill" which makes killing in self defense wrong & the same for national defense in war wrong.
Over the years I have been fascinated by Christian Fundies' obsession with the Old Testament - although I believe that it is used primarily to justify the (once underlying, and now overt) bigotry and misogyny that is at the root of Christian fundamentalism. The New Testament, with its emphasis on loving one's neighbor and forgiveness (and not on Old Testament-style punishment and retribution), is what Christianity is supposed to be all about.
