The click survey on reusing Ziploc bags is here https://ericzorn.substack.com/i/154494238/click-survey

Apologies for the glitch.

I don't have cable TV, but even if I did I wouldn't watch my news that way. It's too biased and always focused on a single story no matter which flavor you choose. I far prefer sticking to my newspapers and regular broadcast news and radio.

I am really angered by the Democrats flaccidity in dealing with Republican BS, lying continually, refusal to deal with reality, such as the absolute fact that our use of fossil fuels is THE cause of global warming, that vaccines work to reduce severe illness and death, etc. So, I choose not to pay too much attention to political news simply because I know that the Clinton Democrats will never fight the GOP because they want to look very seriously "centrist". However, I am spared MSNBC, the Clinton Democrat apologist network, because I don't get cable. Happy me.

I also reuse Ziplock bags because I hate our throw away economy. I simply turn them inside-out and wash them like I was my hands. They are now squeaky clean. I let them dry and they're ready for another use.

Don't watch MSNBC any more. CNN for live events, not commentary. I do watch Abby Phillip on CNN at 9:00. If only they'd get rid of that self-righteous Scott Jennings!

I'm not arguing with any of the comments here. I never watch MSNBC, so I don't have an opinion, either on what EZ said or what's been said here. But do you see what's happening? Unfortunately real life often interferes with "do the right thing". Conservatives have an advantage to begin with because they are solidly behind Fox News. How much critism of Fox do you see by conservatives no matter how idiotic their commentary often gets? Liberals and independents are fragmented between a whole slew of news outlets and, as seen here, will bash them when they have disagreement. Now, all of you may feel that you are merely being truthful and honest about the shortcomings and that you are merely doing the right thing. Okay, fine. You are truthful, honest, well educated people that are giving MSNBC what it deserves. Just know you are feeding the beast. No matter how outrageous Trump and Fox get, his supporters make excuses for everything. Hey he says outrageous things! But it's merely over the top rhetoric to get the attention of people. The things he really means and does are good for America. Besides, anything would have been better than another four years of either Biden or Harris. Trump kept all his promises the first time around and things will be even better this time. That's what you hear from the right, people. That's the real reason Trump won. Keep that in mind in two years and in four years. The GOP will win again if they remain united while the left cannibalizes itself like it did this goaround.

My views would be considered conservative on many issues, and i have no use for Fox. I suspect their higher ratings are because there isn’t a lot of competition for conservative viewpoints.

My point, exactly.

I'm okay with Zorn's pick for the flag, the sesquicentennial flag designed in '68, but my preference is for the centennial flag, also an option. https://flagsforgood.com/products/illinois-centennial-flag

Simple, dignified, unique, historically valid, designed by the same guy who did the Chicago flag, universally praised among vexillologists. I find ideas that feature Lincoln, the shape of the state, or a big letter I a bit hokey.

I think too much is being made of this flag thing. No matter what they choose some political or ethnic group will feel left out. Actually I have the perfect design in mind. Put a big dollar sign in the middle. Then surround it with hands of every color clutching at it and trying to grab it. I believe that is a good representation of our state.

my favorite is the silhouette of Lincoln, inside the state of IL, inside the 21 stars. the color scheme also resonates with me.

So Netanyahu is stalling the deal with Hamas. Hmmmmm. He wouldn’t be doing this to wait until Burger Boy takes over so he can help his good buddy take credit for it, would he? Nah, politicians don’t pull garbage like that, do they?

'... there are no college football fans anywhere more insufferable than Notre Dame fans (with the possible exception of Michigan fans, who can say?).'

well, i can say. and i'd say you're joking, EZ, except i know you're not. only a umichigan sports fan could claim that another school's fans are more arrogant than umich's. 'lacking in introspection', i would say.

if you look at the B1G, back when it had only 10 or 12 teams, there was one thing the fans of the other 9 [or 11] schools had in common: they all hated umich sports and their fans - they still do. and, believe it or not, it wasn't just b/c umich had consistently good/great FB teams - it was mostly due to the arrogant umich fans.

nd fans may be in 2nd - a distant 2nd - but i'd put osu fans right up there with nd fans in level of arrogance.

enjoy that 2024 nat'l championship FB trophy. you'll always know they cheated to win it. and your former head coach skulked off to avoid further ncaa penalties.

disclosure - i attended MSU undergrad, Northwestern grad.

My favorite team has always been whomever is playing ND that day. By the way, may I remind everyone that my school, Northern Illinois University is the only one to defeat them this year?

As I write this the Washington Commanders have just won a playoff game against the Detroit Lions, sending to the NFC title game. The Commanders were probably the team given the lowest chance of reaching the super Bowl and are now one game away. Okay. new pool time. How long will it take Trump to take credit for their success if he hasn't already?

Someone please tell me that I have the date wrong. It’s not really January 20, but April 1, April Fools Day. We are not really going to see the installation of a convicted criminal and egomaniac, an abuser of females, a man with no tact or or personal class or morals in the White House. I was reading in a paper where some of his followers were interviewed as saying we finally have someone that cares about us and the country. Since when? Show me the evidence that Trump has ever cared about anyone other than himself. I know this much. The last time around I never once used the words “president” and “Trump” in the same sentence. I will not do so now. As far as I am concerned, the Oval Office will be filled by a huge block of unqualified cheese that never should have even been allowed to run. And before any of my conservative friends accuse me of extreme liberal thinking, I have never before in my life said that about another person.

By the way, when the aliens come and demand that we take them to our leader, the response will have to be “Sorry- we don’t have one!”

Burger Boy just killed ethics legislation concerning taking big gifts from donors. I guess that fixes Clarence Thomas taking them from those with cases before the SC. He also decided that those working for him can’t take gifts from foreign governments. But it’s okay to take them from private companies. Gee, does anyone besides me see a problem with this? Maybe one of our resident MAGAs can justify all of this.
